Getting back on track!

*Drools*

It's been forever since I last made jewelry and I'm really trying to get back on track and make pretty things while ruining my nails xD So I was going around some online stores to stare at pretty pretty beads and daydream about them.
Beads are one of my guilty pleasures, along with yarn and books and netbooks... and ebook readers and Robbie Williams... Ok! I have many guilty pleasures! But only the bead related one actully pays off :-p Though George wasn't doing so bad last time I checked.
But going back to the beads and the jewelry making thing... I don't really NEED new beads, but staring at them is so good! And even daydreaming about buying them...
Because, to be honest I do all the math about stuff like this... How much do they cost, how much would it cost me to get them sent and then fantasize of being sitting in my bed, with a gazillion of beads to choose from, just working and working endlessly in pretty pretty really pretty jewelry...
*Sigh* I know it's too much but it's hard not to do it when you find a good store with almost endless kinds of beads like it happened today at Beads Of Cambay I got lost there and just spent hours staring, calculating, planning, and even analizing what I would have to sell in order to get a new stash of beads...
I got sent here from a Social Spark opp (How's this for full disclosure? xD) but I got caught up by it! So this review is completely honest... I did spent hours staring, wanting... No wait... Needing new beads!
The site was new to me, and I can't believe it, it's so amazing! I guess I should start expanding my supplies horizons, because I'm totally missing out! They sell Wholesale Beads & Gemstones and it's wholesale pricing that makes it even more exciting to me. I mean, the cheaper the better huh? ;)
And shipping seems great! That's hard to find since I'm buying from Honduras, but they do offer international shipping and free shipping in the States, I think i should start looking for someone who's coming to Honduras anytime soon! :D

Moving...

This little post is just to let you know that we are moving my blog to Wordpress at last! So, it might be weird around here (like the photos that my phone keeps sending ! Though that´s my fault :-p )
So, please be patient and thank you for bearing with me ;)

When things get out of hand...

What happened yesterday in the National University of Honduras (where I study) is the proof of what happens when things go too far...

The so-called student fronts decided to make a protest supporting Manuel Zelaya, in front of the main entrance, closing the boulevard, while burning tires. Soon after the police arrived and at some point they started attacking each other. Rocks were flying by from the protesters side and tear gas bombs were thrown by the police... It was chaos.

Somehow the police managed to cornered them inside the pedestrian entrance of the university and forming a barricade they walked, forcing the students to back up... Meanwhile, rocks and bombs kept flying by... The students finally retreated to the parking lot near the entrance, still attacking the police. And a few minutes later, one of the protesters threw a Molotov bomb to a car that was parked there.

Somehow, I really don´t know how, things ended... at least with the police...

But the group of protesters decided to point their agressions against other targets, so they went to the Burger King, Little Caesars, Dunkin Donuts local on Hollywood (It´s a famous area of the university, with cafeterias and coffee shops, where many students spend their time...) and also the Espresso Americano coffee shop... What they did there is incredible! And trust me, words really can´t describe it...

When I got there today, I felt terrified of the hatred with which they destroyed those places... Nothing was left standing, nothing was left unbroken... What drives people to act like animals? A leader that is happily traveling while they risk their lives and the lives of others to defend him? An ideology that they don´t really know, but that leads them to believe that wearing a tshirt with the Che Guevara´s face makes them revolutionaries?

See for yourself the destruction they left behind...

The Cabonauts at last!!!

The Cabonauts: trailer
VĂdeo enviado por cabonauts

After months of terrible anticipation Hayden Black has finally unveiled the trailer for his new series!!!
I talked about another of Hayden's series ages ago, Abigail's x-rated Teen Diary... He's super talented and is getting a big break with this new show that was presented last night at the Comic-Con... Co-starring with Nichelle Nichols, Uhura from Star Trek (not that I knew that... but many ppl actually knows who she is...), and great guest appearances like Miracle Laurie and James Leary for the first episode! It will be a hit!

So I'm just trying to do my bit and help him get the word out! Watch it! You'll be intrigued...

"The first trailer for our upcoming webseries The Cabonauts! It's a sci-fi musical comedy starring Star Trek's original Uhura, Nichelle Nichols and the creator or Goodnight Burbank and Abigail's Teen Diary, Hayden Black".

3 weeks later... Is it ever gonna end?

I have to say that after a few days I was tired of everything... The horrible coverage by the worldwide media, the lies told by Mel and the, even worse, lies told by Chavez!
My head hurts everyday and sometimes it actually lasts all day...

I tried to disconnect from everything but it´s impossible, with marches and rallies and the walls of the city covered with graffiti...

I wish it would end... I wish Mel stopped saying that he´s coming back everyday, asking the people to wait for him, to be prepared... And even asking them to break laws to support him... People has died for his recklessness, even when he tries to blame it on our new government...

Today I heard my third "bomb" in the last three weeks... First KFC, then Burger King and now the Lawyer Association in Tegucigalpa... all a couple of kms away from my house...
The world is slowly seeing the truth, but it´s not doing any good... What good are the Costa Rica conversations doing? Or the American Congressmen´s support?

Mel is still the victim before the eyes of the world and we are not allowed to go back to normal, because Pro Zelaya people is making sure to ruin our attemps, with the teachers on strike and so-called-student-associations closing the university one day, as if our two month strike wasn´t enough....

Honduras: Democracy at stake

I'm guessing that, by now, many of you have heard/read about the situation in Honduras, not the best way to be known but I guess the only one to be finally under the radar.

Whenever I mention, online, where I come from, people asks where Honduras is located, and they get even more confused when I mention Central America. My country is tiny, poor and has been battling against a leader that wanted to remain in the power by all means.

I could attemp to list all that has happened in the last week but I don't think I could be as accurate and clear as Mary Anastacia O'Grady from the Wall Street Journal. Her article, Honduras defends its democracy, is by far the best and more honest recolection of the events that have been going on here.

Before clicking on the link just let me tell you that it wasn't a coup d'etat. It was the people defending the democracy and fighting against a man that had systematically destroyed our country.

And just to make things clear, I voted for him. I'm one of the many he fooled and I'm actually heartbroken at the way this ended. When he was elected I had great hopes for my country, I figured it would be a fresh start, but I was so wrong. Little by little he started to show his true intentions and I was left feeling guilty by having supported him in the first place.

What concerns me the most is that the international community seems blinded by Zelaya's declarations and the voices of the people seem muffled under the great load of articles supporting him. I find hard to believe that the world can't see the obvious support of Chavez to our, now former president. The threats that Chavez has issued should be enough proof of the ilegality of Zelaya's intentions.

My only hope is that the international community will finally see the truth behind the lies they are being told, and that they will begin to listen the screams of a country that wants to be free and democratic and not fall in the hands of tyrans.

I was on Etsy´s Front Page!!!!!!!!!

I never ever check the Featured tab from CraftCult because I´m never there :-p and I don´t mind, but I did today, because I was bored... and OMG!!! I was on Etsy´s Front Page last night! I can´t believe it!

Telling you that I´m almost jumping all around my room might be an understatement... I´m so excited!!!! And even more exciting is the fact that the item got sold :D This is my third sale in two weeks! :D After 6 very long months of nothing, it´s finally working! I can't tell you how happy I am...

Here, have a look at George looking all happy and excited on Etsy's Front Page:

My first Etsy Front Page

7.1 magnitude earthquake hits Honduras

Around my house everything seems to be fine, my parents didn´t feel it (They are asleep)...

There is some mixed information about San Pedro Sula so far, but I´m getting most of my information from friends or twitter so that´s not entirely objective... We are on Tsunami watch, the epicenter was just a few miles from Bay Islands so I guess that´s were there could be more damage...

I´m just watching CNN but there´s no much information, beyond that there has been a 7.1 earthquake in Honduras... I´ll keep you informed later today... Now I should go to bed, it´s really late!

Ok, just a bit of an update on CNN... It seems a bridge between San Pedro Sula and Yoro may have suffered serious damage and a Comayagua´s Cathedral had some damage too... and there are electricity problems in the north coast... Also a fire in San Pedro Sula, in Barrio Medina, apparently in a big store and some people injured in a Maquila...

Just saying hi!

Cargado originalmente por Thingies!
It´s sooooo late that I can´t even say what time it is... :-p

I just wanted to say hi... and reassure you that I am alive!
I might resume to blogging tomorrow... lots to tell...

But just to make the post worthwhile, here are my brother and Red (yet another cup monkey) saying HI!!!!!!!!

Notice the ear/handle thingies... sooooo cool!!!

About school and my stores

School has been very slow this past week, and starting today, the teachers are on a strike... I was supposed to have an exam today, but my teacher didn't show up.

Now, I have to make a Company Newspaper, for my Public Relations class... I'm really excited about the assignment, because I picked a bookstore (I looooove them!) and I have a million ideas! But I've been working soooooo much on my store that I haven't even started...

I've signed up to sooooo many sites in the last week that it's ridiculous! I actually got accepted in one that I totally forgot that I signed up for! :-p

I'm hoping one of those things will help my teeny tiny store move :-p

Though I did get featured on Timothy Adams'  Top 10 monday :D The Top 10 gets posted via twitter and etsy and the next week, it gets posted on Timothy's blog.  And had been featured in a few treasuries on Etsy... So I guess the store is moving... :-p slowly but moving... I've been considering doing a giveaway here, so stay tuned I have to decide a few things first, but hopefully it will be up in the next few days...

A treasury :D and some stuff

I don't have much to say today, I'm going out of town tomorrow... I'm not really that excited... but I'll live...
I just wanted to show the treasury I made today! :D Finally! I never ever get right on time to the treasuries, but tonight I did... It features rings from members of the EtsyinSpanish team, really beautiful rings that I LOVE!

You can see it here. If you are reading this after it expired, you can see it here.

Oh, and I was going to talk about this a couple of days ago, but I forgot... Twisted Yarns (a yarn shop in Texas) will be using George's pattern to teach a class! :D I got an email from them requesting permission! :D I'm really excited and I can't wait to see the finished monkeys...

Ok, now I'm going to pack, for my really unwanted trip :-p, wish me luck... and if you want to make really happy, leave me a comment or visit the stores :-p

Also, next week, there might be a little surprise here, so stay tuned... You can follow me on twitter @thepurpleblug if you want to be the first to know...

Shining around pattern and stuff for sale...

This is just a tiny update, I know there's people waiting for the Shining Around cushion pattern to be published, so here's the link to her pattern shop on Ravelry

I'm not sure if the pattern is available for sale outside Ravelry, I'm sorry... but if there's people interested I could find out with Talitha...

Also, if any no-knitter is interested, in any way :-p, in a sock monkey cup cozy you can find them for sale on my Etsy and my ArtFire stores... (If you don't want to create an account to make your purchase, I'd recommend ArtFire, if your country is not listed you can email me to add it and then you can make the purchase via paypal)

Sea Horsey, another testing project...

I offered to help test another pattern on Ravelry last week, an Sea Horse amigurumi, but I totally forgot about it since I spent all week working on my cup cozy pattern...

To be honest, I never expected my pattern to be so much work... I had to change the sock monkey's lips and ears from crocheting to knitting and then reknit it to see if everything was fine and then creating the pdf, I totally lost track of time on saturday and went to bed at 5 am just to find out that the pattern that I uploaded to Ravelry was huge and took hours to download :-p

So I remembered about the amigurumi I had to crochet until saturday, the day I was supposed to contact the designer :-p

So I got to work at full speed and crocheted almost all of it in a few hours, it wasn't really that hard, but crochet is not my thing... and amigurumis are annoying with all the tiny pieces... so I finished it until sunday, after emailing the designer, all I had left to do were a few details and the photos... Sea horsey came out really cute, and was inmediatly kidnapped by my cousin, right after I took the photos, and now responds to another name :-P

ETA. To add the sea horse pattern... It's available on the designer's Etsy store for $3

My very first pattern - George

This is a short post just to let you know that I finally finished editing my pattern :D and now it's finally up and running on Ravelry here...

George (If you click here you will forwarded to the pattern's page)

If you are not on Ravelry yet you can download it here...

George (Clicking here will take you directly to a pdf file)

Eta. If you can´t knit, I also have cup monkeys available in my Etsy store. And also on ArtFire.

Now on ArtFire and more...

I just opened a shop on ArtFire, things on Etsy have been really slow, I still love it with a love that is more than love :-p but the truth is it's quite discouraging when I see no change, no matter how hard I work...

Maybe ArtFire won't be the right way to go, but I think it deserves a try...
At the moment it's making me happy :-p I'm currently on the front page, which is definetly a good way to make me very happy!

So if you want to check the ArtFire shop you can go to http://thingies.artfire.com (Yes! I got the name I wanted!! :D )

On other news, I just want to let everyone interested in the Sock Monkey Cozy pattern that I will finish it tonight! :D This is really exciting! And I can't wait to share it with all of you... Let me just warn  you, that this is my first pattern and it might be a bit messy.  I changed a few things to make it all knitting, because the crocheted details (ears and lips) were impossible to explain.

I'll be posting it tomorrow, so stay tuned! If you want the latest info you can follow me on twitter

A new treasury and a sock monkey

Yup, I made it into another treasury! :D Twice in two weeks! Etsy is becoming more exciting every day... The treasury expired yesterday and I totally forgot to post it here, but here´s a screenshot :D it was Lupitita, a teeny tiny Virgen de Guadalupe cellphone thingie...

This week I also decided to go back to craftster... It´s been o
ver a year since I´ve logged in there and I really missed it... I left a few swaps hanging and I have 3 negatives in my feedback and now I´m trying to fix that.  I was advised to send three packages as an angel or as a part of a swap that has been made for people with negatives on their profile...

I found a lot of people requesting stuff that I can send I just have to decide exactly what I´ll send and to whom, but in one  of the lists I found someone requesting a crocheted Sock Monkey Coffee Cup Cozy... after a bit of analysis I figured I could try and knit one, just to see if I could make it work and then make one to send on the swap...

I made it without a pattern and in a couple of hours... I´m so proud! He´s so cute! Judge for yourself.... Let me know what you think...

New thingies in my store!

After much procrastination I finally added new things to my Etsy store!! :D

I´ve been doing it since last weekend, but I wanted to add a resonable amount of new things before actually posting it here, though twitter has been abused by these updates :-p

I still have a few things left and I want to take new photos to the old things... The new ones are so pretty... If you don´t mind me saying so :-p

Building a house

Last week was pretty uneventful and there wasn't much to report, so I just didn't :-p
But then on tuesday, my friend Angel asked me to help him to make a mode of an egyptian house... with polymer clay! :-p

Yup, I was sold the moment he mentioned the clay.

I thought it was going to be fairly easy, since I do play a lot with clay... but it took us a while to get actually started... First the store (yup, the one that I found on my birthday) was closed and we had to wait. Then, my car decided to get sick that day :-p so I had to take it to the shop and when we got home after we had lunch we had to condition the clay.... damn, that was hard... not that I did that, but poor Angel...

He bought 4 packs of clay and he spent hours conditionioning it while I made dessert for dinner (it was father's day here that day), but when I got finished with dessert everything was ready to start working... I don't own a pasta machine or anything to roll the clay and given the fact that we had to roll large amounts of clay I ended up using a huge bottle of heineken as a roller (from my brothers' collection of empty bottles :-p)

All in all, it was lots of fun! :D Angel had a blast mixing different colors, when he found out what happened when he did that he couldn't stop. We had two different mixes and only the floor ended up being of one color... It took a very long time to "finish" but it came out quite close to what he wanted, I know he added stuff to it in his house but the harder work was done when he left... (I hope :-p)

Here are some pics of our day... not of the finished thing, because they were so hard to take, they were useless...

My first treasury!!!

I was really bored last night... when I should have been working in something else :-p and for some reason I decided to check if any of my Etsy things had been featured on a treasury or something like that...

So I went to Craftopolis, which I discovered last week. It's a great tool, you just add your Etsy username and it will show you if you have been featured on a gift list or on a treasury. And amazingly enough, I was in one!!! :D I freaked out for a second, then calmed down a bit... :-p and started looking for a way to create a print screen of the page, because I did want proof of it for posterity :-p

Take a look ( I'm the very first one, Dewdrops :D ) :

It will expire in about a day, so if you want to see it in all its glory you can click on the photo or go here soon. A huge thank you to Zia Zia for adding me!

ETA. Oh, in case you were wondering what I used to make the print screen you can go to Thumbalizr, I found no way to get the part of the screen the monitor wasn't showing just clicking print screen in my keyboard, so I did a bit of research and it worked great... Just in case you ever need it...

Test-knitting a sun that looks like a flower

Soooooo, I was checking the forums on my Ravelry groups and I found an open request for test-knitters and since my plan to conquer the world involves knitting at some point :-p I decided to apply for it... it was for a lovely sun-shaped cushion...

Now, you may be asking why I say that mine looks like a flower, well, mostly because is pink and that doesn't help it look like a sun :-p I honestly loved the whole knitting process it was so much fun, I've never done any test-knitting before and had so much fun...

I still have to email the designer to inform her what I think of it, but the truth is that the pattern was great, easy and quick (bulky yarn is great, and when u lack of it, three strands of worsted weight yarn do the trick... )

I made a mistake on the first "bright side of the sun" but that was my fault, I messed up
somewhere and was never able to get it right... nothing that ruined my pillow though, it was just a random extra stitch that I never actually found whenever I tried to fix it...

When I got to the other side everything was fine, maybe because I decided not to stress about it, and not once I ended with the infamous random extra stitch :D

Also, I killed a couple of cushions to fill the sun/flower cushion, because my mom decided it was better to use that instead of the stuffing I know I have somewhere in my closet :-p

I tell you, it was fun! And it's great to be the first one to knit a pattern :D
I'll post the link of the pattern once its out there...

ETA. The pattern is now available on Ravelry here

Birthday #20-something...

HPIM5581

Yup, I'm twenty-something... :-p My birthday was last thursday, it wasn't as fabulous as I expected, but hey, you can't great birthdays every year, right?

I did enjoy myself on thursday... Big Baleada, friends and finding out that there's a new crafts shop in town (that sells polymer clay!!!! :D ) made it great!!!

Then, saturday, I had a celebration at home with some of my family and friends... We ended up playing Jenga Extreme :D It wasn't what I had in mind but I had fun, and learned a thing or two about friendships :-p

Collecting my earnings :-p

So, yes... I won!!! :D
Come on! Who didn't believe Heath Ledger was going to get the Oscar?! Just Eduardo... :-p

And well, he's still in denial...
I, on the other hand, am really glad he won... and had the best of times watching the Oscars... Mostly because Slumdog Millionaire kicked some ass!

It was great to see them taking almost every award they were nominated for...

Ok, here are some photos of our visit to the Big Baleada... (I'm not in any of them, because I was the photographer :-p )

One of this days I will explain what a baleada is... :-p Yes, they need a whole post!
Now I'm going to bed... my birthday is in about an hour, and i really want to receive it asleep :-p

Etsy... so cool!

Ok, yes, I love Etsy! With a love that is more than love! :-p

I've made 4 sales since October(ok, not that good... but could be worse) and I've done lots of window shopping... Too much to be good for me... My favorites list is just too big!

But lately I've been using other features and I love it even more... I've made a couple of
treasuries, they are great!!! :D And I would love to make a million more if it wasn't so damn hard to get one in the first place...

But one of the things I really love, is the Virtual Labs! Chats, workshops, Shop critiques and even concerts and in such amazing places! :D

I attended the critiques today, didn't get one but I stayed afterwards chatting with
a guy that sells buttons and magnets (RyanPlz).... God, I think we played with every thing you can use in the rooms! We jumped from seat to seat, spinned like crazy, spanked forgotten avatars and were attacked by the gigantic drooling smiley... so much fun!

Etsy, for me, is not only great because of the posibility of selling handmade thingies online but also because of their great interest in the sellers...

The Storque is a huge Etsy Database and you find so many interesting things there to help you be a better seller and the labs are just amazing! Etsy is, by far, the best handmade marketplace there is...

So, you knitters, crocheters, beaders, jewelerers, artists, even Sharpie doodlers(*) give you craft a chance!

(*)Yes, sharpie doodlers! If you don't believe me check out Rosie O'Donnell's Etsy Shop (Yes, THE Rosie O'Donnell). She sells doodled Munnys and the proceeds go to "Rosie's Broadway Kids"

Betting on Oscar night!

Soooooo, I was just challenged by a friend and I couldn't help myself... :-p

Oscars night is one of my favorite nights of the year... I lock myself in my room and enjoy the show...

I really can't wait to see if Heath Ledger wins the the Best Actor in a Supporting Role... no, wait... I can't wait to see him win it actually, because I know that he's going to win :-p

And there lies the challenge :-p Eduardo (my friend, in case you didn't figure it out :-p ) says he won't win, because according to him, he doesn't deserve it... and I am certain that he will win... so, when he loses he'll invite me to eat a very delicious Big Baleada (I can't believe I haven't talked about it here!!!) and it will taste even better, because the taste of victory is sooooooo good! :-p

Yes, I am excited... is it that obvious?

Now, I have to go... I need to prepare my ballot :-p I already got my predictions on the very cool thing they have at Oscar.com

Eta. Ballot is all set! :D

Very Belated Valentine's Day Thingie!!!

I know, I know... I've been MIA for a looooong time... Mostly because I killed the blog and felt like crap :-p I might be able to fix what I did, since the moving to Wordpress proved to be a mess :-p and go back to normal...
But since I don't have much time, I just wanted to say hi! and I saw this video in a thread on Ravelry and I just love it soooo much... So I thought I'd share it with you guys!
It's called I love you by Mary Fons aka PaperGirl... I love every single word and most of all, I love her passion... It's my new favorite video!!
I hope you like it too and that you had a good Valentine's day....

From a fellow pillow clutcher!

love poem 2002

this poem is for the pillow clutchers/for those looking into the imaginary eyes of the person who fills their mind with sugarplum smiles/for those who have a cannon of dreams ready and waiting to blossom/for the men and the women who want to be understood in that way that only someone who kisses you can understand you/this poem is for you.

this poem is not for the desperate/the pathetic/the lame/the loser/not for the one who hasn’t gotten laid in awhile/not for the one who says they’re “choosing not to date” for awhile/there is no such thing/this poem is for the people who cannot bring themselves to admit that they would give their right leg for any length of time with the person on their mind.

forgive me/I am not a brave woman/I do not know what lurks in the hearts of humans and I don’t really want to know/if what’s there mirrors memories I show in my face on bad days it holds kisses that are long gone/people who have disappeared/and passions that have faded into the ether of the past/nothing lasts/that is the one lesson this coward can say she is able to teach.

this poem is for all those who wish to say “I’m sorry”/I’m sorry I couldn’t love you/you deserve love/I’m sorry I couldn’t give something to you/you deserve to be given to/I’m sorry that for every person that loves somebody/another person just doesn’t want to/and sometimes we’re the lucky ones/right/we get to feel sweet truth in the night/the bodies we reach out to are miraculously there/but I know the despair that comes when they are not/I know the long nights and the doubt and the fear and that crawling back to a womb that just isn’t there/I know intensity’s address and the letdown that rents there/I’m sorry for it/it takes years off your life and it cannot be avoided.

and some times these little words are crutches for the crush that we feel/so this poem is a pathetic vehicle for me to tell you/each one of you/that I love you/in so many ways/in the same ways that stay up nights and days/dreaming up the perfect way to be there for someone/meals you would cook for them/poems you would write for them and the things you plan to say when they say no/well I love you/and you will never know how in the slight of a magician’s hand we could’ve been lovers and grandly in love/could’ve changed the whole game/written words on the horizon/changed the compromise/but you will know something else instead/bitter as bitter ever gets/more bitter than a rotten peach pit/more bitter than a child’s most terrifying nightmare at night/you will know that I don’t reflect what I see in your eyes/will will share some banal recognition/some cordial understanding but have I mentioned that I love you for not lying/so many people lying all the time/I hate them/so I love you/and you will still go home alone/and that is very hard to do.

for all the humans with love for those who aren’t their lovers/I love you.

and so the poem ends because we know that it will/but before it slips away like everything else/I will attempt the only words I can think of that are a fraction as good as a kiss: when you reach out at night and find not someone/but the cold grey light of day that wakes you up like a slap/like a curse/like an insult/I love you/when you stay at home thinking of those who are long gone or those who are getting kisses from someone that is not you/I love you/for those who want what they probably need and whose bodies are starving not for food/for me and for you and for all the people who never knew or understood what you would do for them/I love you/I love you/I love you.

From Mary Fons' site.
